The Angst

Thursday night one of the two photo shoots which I had was for a soon to be released short film entitled “The Angst”. It’s a hilarious comedy/drama based on a fictional character named “The Angst”. The Angst lives in Cal's head and makes him worry about things in his relationships. It’s definitely worth seeing.

The aim of this shoot was to create images to use within the design of some old movie posters which the producer wanted to spoof. We also wanted to create some images for use in some original posters. It was an interesting dynamic because all the actors were in character and acting out emotions based on the film without any actual context. In other words the actors were interacting with one another for the still camera in order to portray the flavor of the film without revealing any actual scenes or dialog. The result was an album of images which literally left me laughing out loud. Click (here) to see the rough album and keep checking http://LukasinLA.com as I will have the site up shortly. The below images are drafts of the posters I have been working on.

I actually really liked this shoot because of the interaction I was able to enjoy with the cast.

The Angst: This was the first time I met Lyndon Unger, and I have to say he is one of the funnier Canadians I have interacted with. I enjoyed his good natured humor, as well as his patience as he was one of the few who had to wait around for long periods of time during the shoot.

Cal: Although I know Patrick Anderson from other contexts this was the first time I had worked with him in a studio environment. At first he seemed a little shy in front of the still camera, but once he got into it I was really able to see his character come out as he re-enacted some of the many emotions of fear and anxiety intrinsic within his role.

Jenny: Charming is the word which first comes to my mind when I think of Emily Turner. She was quick to jump in leaving me with almost no work on the posing side of her session. She fluidly moved from pose to pose exhibiting the best of her charming yet innocent smile. She is a perfect complement to the rather anxious Cal in this film.

Jerry: Shannon Halliday acted out "obnoxious" in a way which felt so real it was laughable. Outside of his role he has a more laid back considerate persona. But as Jerry he is nothing but the person we all avoid. It’s not often I laugh that hard as I shoot.

Tanya: Jen Blushi felt comfortable in front of the camera. She was great in working with Jerry in a way which I think might be hard for someone less enthusiastically into her role. But as you will see in the images the disgust she portrayed in her interaction with Jerry’s character almost looked too real. If it weren’t for the giggles in between snaps I might have been fooled.

Anne: I guess the words which I would use to describe Amanda Habbershaw would be cute, sweet, and crisp. She has this sweet innocent feel about her which suddenly disappeared with a crisp hardened exterior as she interacted with Chaz. I thought it was well played out and wonder how much this is her personality outside of character. From the interaction which I had with her I think it is probably more the former rather than the later.

Chaz: Perhaps “Thriller” was the wrong song to play during the photos I did with Brian Touhy. Or perhaps it was really very much the right song. One of my favorite images from this session is one with Anne reading a book in the foreground as Chaz flies through the air behind her. I just need to say “good job Brian” when I think of these images.
